Today, the Marlies announced that they have recalled Michael Garteig from the Newfoundland Growlers to join them on their road trip to play the Manitoba Moose tonight and tomorrow night.

Garteig, who has been a big reason the Growlers are first in the standings in the ECHL was only recently given an AHL contract. He has a .912 save percentage in 21 games. He was originally signed to an ECHL deal with the idea he would be the backup in St. John’s. Now he’ll be playing with former Growlers teammate Eamon McAdam as the only Marlies goalies on this trip.

Kasimir Kaskisuo, who has been injured off an on, has only appeared in nine games for the Marlies. He played 40 minutes in the Marlies last game and gave up five goals against.

If you want to watch this game tonight, you can for free on Facebook. This is a new scheme the AHL is trying this year to generate interest in the teams. The video quality is very good, and you get essentially the same product you pay for (at new, more reasonable rates) on AHL TV.

Note that the game is in Winnipeg, so it starts at 8 p.m. our time.

The Growlers begin a road trip in Brampton on Sunday, so they could have Garteig right back in their laps in time for their next game, if the travel works out. After that game, they are off until December 28, so they won’t be harmed by losing their starter too much, assuming that is, that the Marlies sort out their netminder problems by then.

The Marlies come back from Winnipeg to three days off until Wednesday, December 19.

At this time, we don’t know if the Marlies intend to play Garteig at all, or if McAdam will get both starts.
