The Leafs draft pick is back again for another tour of Marlies duty.

He’s changed a little from draft day. Not too much, though, since that was only back in 2015 where he was taken 95th overall.

Since then, Lindgren has played in the Swedish second-tier Allsvenskan leauge in the 2016-2017 season. He had good success there. He capped that off with even more success in the Swedish junior league where he won the championship. Then he dropped by Toronto last summer on an ATO with the Marlies. He did not see game action.

This season, he moved to the Liiga in Finland. I talked about his year in the European Report recently:

This season was a tough ask for Lindgren. He’s only 20 years old, and he went to a new team in a different country where he was one of only two non-Finns on the team. He played top pairing minutes for much of the first part of the season on a team with a lot of raw, young talent. The team got outshot a lot, and while he didn’t help with that, I’m not sure the rookie is who you should expect to save you from your own inability to drive play.

He did not finish the year with a trophy. In fact, he’s been listed as injured for a while, so he may not be in game shape at the moment. This really was a tough year, but in with the struggles, he also revealed a really good shot from the point that he doesn’t overuse, and some skill at playing the blueline offensively that translated up a level from where he was last year.

Lindgren turns 21 in a few weeks, and he is also under contract for the coming season, so this is just another chance for the Leafs to have a look at him. The Leafs hold his rights until the summer of 2019, so no decision on him needs to be made now.

Will Calle Rosen called up to the Leafs on an emergency basis, the Marlies are a bit thinner on defence so if nothing else, he’ll get in some good practice time. The Marlies schedule is heating up with a lot of games packed into a short period of time. Their next game is today at 7 p.m.
