Today, Team Sweden announced their preliminary roster for the 2019 World Junior Championships camp. They have both of the Marlies young Swedish defenders: Timothy Liljegren and Rasmus Sandin, as expected, but Pontus Holmberg joins the team as well.

So far, five Leafs prospects are on the rosters for this tournament with Ian Scott and Filip Kral already named to their national teams.

The Swedish team has eight defenders and 14 forwards, although one more is expected to be added, so there will be some cuts. Joining Holmberg in the class of players who worked their way onto the roster is draft-eligible Nils Höglander.

Another interesting one to watch is the 2019 draft-eligible Samuel Fagemo. He’s been turning heads lately.

The roster has a star-quality defence, which is amazing considering the best junior defender in the world right now is playing for the Buffalo Sabres, but the forward corps is going to have to survive on hard work, luck and passion.

The 2019 WJC begins in Vancouver/Victoria in less than three weeks. Tre Kronor will play some friendlies in BC beginning on December 18. Cuts to the roster will likely happen on the 24th or 25th of December.

Liljegren and Sandin will likely not leave the Marlies until closer to the middle of the month.
