Wednesday’s Picks

The Golden Knights fans pick a player who is getting the buzz going at the right time:

NHL Mock Draft 2019: Vegas Golden Knights select Raphael Lavoie with No. 17 pick - Knights On Ice
The Golden Knights add a big, goal-scoring forward in the 2019 SB Nation NHL Mock Draft.

Lavoie was nearly unstoppable in the playoffs. In 23 postseason contests, he scored 20 goals and 32 points to help guide the Mooseheads all the way to the Memorial Cup final. Though his team wound up falling to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies for the championship, Lavoie was largely responsible for the Mooseheads making it that far in the tournament to begin with.

While the Stars fans are taking the intriguing DEL defender:

NHL Mock Draft 2019: Dallas Stars Select Moritz Seider 18th Overall - Defending Big D
Draft the best player available or draft to fill a need? By taking Seider, the Stars attempt to do both

Three top 2019 draft-eligible prospects participated in this year’s World Championships. Jack Hughes and Kaapo Kakko, the projected #1 and #2 picks in this draft class, have been scouted intensely going all the way back to the 2017-18 season and both performed as well as expected in this event, so opinions about their potential likely didn’t change much, if at all.

But for German defenseman Moritz Seider, the third teenager who played in the tournament and has been difficult to get viewings of this season? Talk about a coming out party.

Going toe-to-toe against NHL competition, the 18-year-old Seider looked perfectly comfortable and capable, showing off his unflappable composure and long skating stride. He jumped up into the play on a regular basis and was rewarded with two goals for his efforts.

Today, the Sens fans get to use the pick acquired in the Columbus trade, while the Avs fans are using the Rangers pick from their mock draft trade. We’ll have those links up tomorrow.
