First Period

Max Pacioretty got carried away early in the game.

Not, you know. actually physically carried off, lucky for him.

A mistake from carelessness, but still a penalty:

Good PK from the Leafs:

This one...

I feel like this could have been boarding if Carter Verhaeghe had moved closer to the boards or had turned. So it was reckless in terms of potential outcomes, but does that make it boarding?

The five-on-five game for both teams was weak. The four penalties were the difference. The Leafs PK was good, Woll was good, and that's that. 1-0 Florida after one.

Second Period

This power play was absolutely hideous and somehow seemed to last years, but was only one minute long.

Marner takes a very classic defenceman penalty here since he'd spent the power play as a defenceman.

The four-on-four was good, the Leafs did well on the PK, and when Marner came out of the box, he immediately was elbowed in the head:

No call on this Aaron Ekblad classic.

Anton Lundell took a penalty late in the game, and the Leafs power play was pretty disastrous there too.

Not going to lie, the Leafs got their asses handed to them in this period. The score stayed the same, Joe Woll kept bailing and the ship didn't sink, but it was the worst playoff period so far. There was almost a minute less five-on-five in the second which is hampering the Leafs' flow. The Panthers don't seem bothered by it.

This is a legitimate caveat on the above, however. Florida has the puck, and they don't do anything useful with it. This kind of game is a hard, hard slog to get a win out of. Well. For both teams, in the end.

Third Period

Just after, Oliver Ekman-Larsson went off for two minutes for a hit on Evan Rodrigues who was woozy after. Big head movement on this hit, he could have whiplash.

Knies with a beauty shorthanded break, but no goal.

It did lead to an easy kill of the rest of the power play, however.

William Nylander double shifted for a run through of the lines. Calle Järnkrok the odd man out at the moment.

Sam Bennett with some serious moves, while Jake McCabe slid way out of the play for some reason. Woll completely unable to handle the shooter, no matter what McCabe was doing.

2-0 Florida

Leafs with a very thin advantage in Corsi in this period, which gave them some chances, but it wasn't them who scored.

Leafs were also good during an extended six-on-five, but Bobrovsky really wanted that shutout, I guess. Panthers win.

Game 5 is Wednesday at 7 pm. Two days off!

See you then.
