New Executive Director Names
The PWHLPA will be replacing Brian Burke as Executive Director with Malaika Underwood on March 3, 2025.
With over 20 years of experience in college and professional sports, Underwood has advanced athlete representation while driving revenue growth. Most recently, as a Partner at High Tide Consulting, she advised sports organizations, governing bodies, and brands on strategic initiatives. From 2022 to 2023, she served as interim CEO of OneTeam Partners, steering the company through a critical transition and an investment transaction that valued the company at $1.8 billion. At the time, OneTeam represented the commercial interests of the NFLPA, MLBPA, MLSPA, WNBPA, NWSLPA, U.S. Women’s National Team PA, U.S. Rugby PA, and thousands of collegiate athletes. As Senior Vice President, Underwood led the development of OneTeam’s college business, creating the largest group licensing program in sports and ensuring equitable opportunities for female and male athletes. She also held leadership roles at The Brandr Group, IMG, and the Collegiate Licensing Company, where she managed licensing programs, oversaw co-branding initiatives for players associations, and provided strategic guidance for top collegiate institutions and brands.
The PWHL itself has also made some leadership changes.
The Teams
The Frost are solidly in second place with a Points % of 0.548 and a record of 5-3-2-4. They have been a higher-event team than most with a goal differential of only +4. They are very average on special teams in terms of opportunities and scoring for and against. Maddie Rooney, who takes just over half their starts, is average. Nicole Hensley has been struggling.
The Frost get the job done with Kendall Coyne Schofield, who leads the league in points, Taylor Heise and Claire Thompson. All three are in the top six in the league.
Toronto won a game! We'd like to see a few more points added, as they are still in last place, but are now only one point behind Boston and three behind Ottawa. Their Points % is 0.389, and their record is 4-0-2-6.
Toronto's issues are well known: they seem to start slow, Kristen Campbell has struggled, and they don't score goals even when they finally start dominating in shots for.
The Sceptres need the smallest hint of offensive magic and puck control success and they can put up points fast enough to be in the playoff race before you know it.
Look for lineups closer to gametime, and Go Sceptres Go!
