Toronto lost their last game on the road to Ottawa 3-2, and they have a Points % of .500.

Minnesota won their last game on the road in Boston 2-1. Their Points % is .667.

Them

Minnesota has 10 rookies and 16 Cup-winning returnees on their roster, so they have the core of their successful team along with an infusion of newly drafted youth.

Drafted players include defender Mae Batherson and forwards Katy Knoll, Brooke McQuigge and Dominique Petrie, who were all signed out of training camp.

Signed earlier were forwards Britta Curl, Klára Hymlárová and defender Claire Thompson.

The goaltending duo of Nicole Hensley and Maddie Rooney is unchanged, and the core of the defence is also the same players who helped the team have the second lowest goals against last year (Toronto was lowest). Claire Thompson is a significant upgrade there.

They are the same style of team – goaltending focused, with the game breaking ability of Taylor Heise, Kendall Coyne Schofield and rookie of the year Grace Zumwinkle.

Hard to beat, in other words.

Honestly, she doesn't look that dangerous...

Us

Heading into the third game of the season, the Sceptres are yet to truly click offensively and more generally with puck possession and control.

There are some bright spots in the gloom of the previous lacklustre game. Izzy Daniel is always going to the net, Hannah Miller is doing the same thing she did last year – scoring some necessary goals – and Daryl Watts has ably moved onto the top line.

I have questions about the defence beyond the top pair, but that's the case in every hockey league I know of.

We know the Sceptres are capable of relentless offensive pressure and a tough physical game, they just have to combine them effectively. [editor's note: you can't just copy and paste that into the Leafs preview]
