Like no one at all predicted, Seth Griffith has been claimed off of waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs.  Griffith was formerly with the Boston Bruins organization, and in waiving him, they were fulfilling their destiny to throw away prospects for nothing or next to nothing or at least another good player they will throw away eventually.

Griffith is a right-shooting right wing of 23, and he tore up the AHL last year.  He finished second in scoring with 24 goals and 53 assists, making 77 points in only 57 games.

He would be perfect on the Marlies, who have a grand total of one right-shooting winger.

However, the problem here is that in order to get him on the Marlies, the Leafs have to put him through waivers, and Boston can just snatch him back. Any other team that wanted him could have him too.

Griffith has played 34 NHL games with not much to show for it, but at his age, that might not mean much.  Boston isn’t renowned for putting prospects into positions to succeed.

How the Leafs will handle the roster juggling to get him to fit within the limit of 23 players is unknown so far, but they have not waived any players today.
