Today the Toronto Furies announced that they have pre-signed goaltender Shea Tiley from the 2018 CWHL Draft prospect list.

Tiley spent her collegiate career as the starter for the Clarkson University Golden Knights, where she backstopped her team to two consecutive NCAA championships as a junior and senior.

Dear Sami Jo... Goalie prospects for the 2018 CWHL Draft

Annie’s scouting report:

The best Ontarian-born goaltender graduating this year by a mile, Shea Tiley had as good of a collegiate career as anyone could want. A starter for all four of her seasons with Clarkson University, Tiley won both ECAC Goaltender of the Year and Rookie of the Year as a freshman, and then won Goaltender of the Year a second time this past year as a senior. In between those two awards, she won two national championships, was named a Patty Kazmaier Top-10 Finalist and won Most Outstanding Player at the 2018 Frozen Four, and wrapped up her time at Clarkson as their all-time winningest goaltender. She played the most minutes of any goalie in Division I last year, and also led in victories, save percentage, and tied for first in shutouts. Tiley is exceptional.

Between her skill, her numbers and Toronto’s positional need, it’s no surprise GM Sami Jo Small chose to use one of her three pre-signing slots on Tiley.

This is the second goalie signing this month for Toronto. While Tiley appears to have her GM’s vote for the starting position she will have a more than reliable backup in former Vanke Rays starter Elaine Chuli, which should help her make the transition to the professional level.

The future is looking bright for the Toronto Furies, the question is how will they stack up against the league powerhouses this season?

The 2018 CWHL draft takes place in Toronto on Sunday August 26.
